Creative Action of God
All of the scriptures direct the reader to the concept, knowledge, and understanding of God’s nature. Scripture states in Psalm 19:1 KJV “The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament showeth his handiwork”. The a priori knowledge indicates that God has created all of nature and all the contents in the earth including human beings. God’s attributes are demonstrated as a masterful artist. His crowning glory of artistic achievement is found in the creation of human beings. God as a creator demonstrates the unity of the Godhead, the equality in unity is found in the Godhead displayed as the authority of the Creator God.
Unity of the Godhead in Creation
In the opening verses of the book of Genesis, we see an active Creator identified as God. In Genesis 1:2 KJV states that the “earth was without form and void: and the darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Sprit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” In the opening verses, we see God the Father and the Holy Spirit moving to create. God the Son, appears and speaks “Let there be light” and there was light. This is our introduction to God as a triune God. We clearly see God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God creates the world, ex-nihilo which means out of nothing. We see the creative hand of God in full unity in the creation of the day and the night. God continues in his creative state by creating seas and land. He continues creating grass, trees, sun and moon, and animals of every kind. Finally, God creates man “in our own image after our likeness” with a body, mind and soul. As the Father, Son and Holy Spirit has unity within the Godhead, man has the same unity with a body, mind and soul.
Equality in the Godhead displaying the Glory of God
Although man was created originally perfect in every way, the creation called Adam rejected the Creator by breaking His law. The perfect creation, through the temptation of Satan, found themselves separated from an eternally perfect, Holy God. The man and woman known as Adam, chose to rebel against God’s holiness and perfection by becoming gods themselves and knowing good and evil. By their foolish choice against God, all of humankind was cursed to die, separated from God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit could have punished humankind immediately and instantly. God’s great love for his creation allowed for an alternative. Humankind would have the choice to love God without force, without malice and with the use of their own free will. This glorious display of God’s love for His creation is shown in God’s curse upon the serpent. God states in Genesis 3:15 KJV “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed.” This seed can only mean the woman’s offspring. It is the first revelation of God’s glorious plan of redemption.
The Glory of God’s Plan of Redemption
God’s great love for all his creation is shown through His Son, Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Through Jesus becoming the propitiation for the sin of all humankind, God shows His glory through sacrificing His Only Begotten Son. God the Son, who spoke the universe and all its contents into creation, comes to earth in the form of humanity to identify with his creation and to declare God’s Word in flesh. John 1:1 KJV declares, “In the beginning was The Word and The Word was with God and the Word was God.” This word is described in Greek as the Word or “Logos” found in Genesis 1:3. This same Creator became a man to identify with humankind. The book of John speaks of The Son of God on earth as a human and he dwelled among us. Although Christ is the second person of the triune Godhead, he chose to relinquish His glory by taking the form of a servant and dying for humankind, who did not love or even choose Him as their Savior.
God’s Authority on display in a New Creation
God’s authority is displayed in the final movement of the metanarrative. He creates a plan not only to redeem fallen humankind but to make an entirely new creation through the living, moving, and having His Holy Spirit operating in every person who chooses Him as Lord and Savior. 1 Colossians 1:15 proclaims, “Who (Christ) is the image of the invisible God and the first-born of every creature.” Every creature, every human being is under the authority of God. His authority does not mean God forces His choice on His creation. God’s authority allows for a free-willed creature to choose The Creator. In His design of the redemptive plan, God allows his creation to choose to be with him forever or choose eternal punishment for sin. If we choose His plan, we are given a new mind and a new life that begins the moment we accept His plan. This is the glory of God’s grace and mercy on full exhibit for the entire world to choose His plan and not our own.
Conclusion
The story of God’s eternal plan starts in the book of Genesis. God placed an a priori knowledge of Him in our hearts when we were created. The fall and our sinful nature allowed us to disobey a Holy and Righteous God. God’s eternal plan of salvation uses a chosen family in which God the Son would enter the earth as a human to become the Savior of the entire world. Jesus’ crucifixion, death and resurrection assures those who are believers in Him a permanent, eternal new mind and body. Lastly, God is glorified by a promised that God has given all believers in His Son: an eternal rest in a heavenly home created by God himself as described in the book of Revelations.
